Weekly Update from RCOC - Pink section

This Week

o The excavation contractor, Springline, is going to continue curb removal and underdrain installation on the east side of Tilbury Rd

o The curbing contractor, Doan, will continue pouring concrete curb and driveways on the east side of Westwood Drive and Waddington Road, and on the portions of Oak Street and Yarmouth Road east of Cranbrook where the old curbs have been removed and underdrain has been placed.

Next week

o Springline will continue curb removal and underdrain installation on the north side of Tilbury Place, north/east side of South Bradway, and the south and east faces of the island at Pine St and Tilbury Rd

Notices will be posted on front doors indicating if your home will be affected by the concrete placement. If you receive a notice, you will need to move your car out of your driveway prior to the date listed on the notice to avoid being blocked in.

Once both the concrete curb and driveway approaches have been installed, they will need to set (cure) for approximately two weeks before they can be driven on. We will block off driveways with yellow caution tape until the concrete reaches the proper strength. Please do not touch the caution tape. When the caution tape has been removed by the contractor, the driveway will be safe for vehicles to drive on.

More about concrete curb placement

Step one in the curbing process for a given street (or section of street) will be removal of the temporary driveway approaches, followed by placement of the concrete curbs. Once the curbs are placed, concrete driveway approaches will be poured. The concrete needs to cure for about two weeks before ANY vehicle traffic is allowed on it.

Before the driveway approaches are removed to start the curbing process, residents will need to move vehicles out of garages/driveways and park them elsewhere, to avoid being blocked in during the two-week curing time.

Residents will be notified by the contractor in advance of curb placement. The contractor will post a notice on the front door of each house that will be impacted by the concrete placement. If you receive a notice, you will need to move your car out of your driveway/garage and park it elsewhere prior the date listed on the notice. (If the curb and driveway approach in front of your home has not yet been removed, you have some time before the curbing process will occur in front of your home and you can continue to park in your own driveway/garage.)

Where do I park? For the days the contractor is removing the driveway approaches, placing the curbs and pouring the driveway approaches, there will be a lot of heavy equipment on the street. Please park on another street that does not have active construction, or perhaps arrange with a neighbor to park in their driveway on the other side of the street. This will reduce congestion during active construction. After the contractors have moved on, parking on the opposite side of the street is acceptable. Please make sure to leave room for residents to get in and out of their driveways.

A Few Other Reminders

If possible, please have any guests park in your driveway if you live across the street from a current work area. The extra room will allow us to work faster and minimize delays for street traffic.

Please travel at slow speeds as you approach individuals and equipment. When approaching the active construction area, make eye contact with the individual construction worker or the equipment operator before traveling past them. Equipment operators have many blind spots and may not see you unless eye contact is made.

In case of an emergency, all construction staff will clear the road as quickly as possible to allow emergency services through.

Other than during the concrete curbing process discussed above and when the asphalt pavement is laid/curing, you will have access to your driveway throughout the project. RCOC is providing aggregate transitions over the drainage trenches to ensure this access. If you have a circular driveway, they will provide a transition in one approach or the other (not both).

The contractor will be working from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. They are working on one side of the road at a time to allow access for residents and maintain the flow of traffic.

If possible, please assist us by marking your sprinkler heads with paint, flags, sticks, etc. This will help us avoid damaging your sprinkler heads/system as much as possible.

Soil erosion controls are to remain in place until the project is completed. The soil erosion controls will slow drainage and protect the drainage system from debris and/or sediment entering the system at all structure areas. Stormwater may drain more slowly in areas where soil erosion controls have been installed.

We know that the upcoming work is exciting and interesting to children of all ages; however, please always keep children out of the road and behind the sidewalk. The work will generally not extend any further than five feet from the edge of the existing roadway.

Then the opposite side of the road, starting at North Glenhurst.

We will provide updates to residents as the project progresses. If you receive an update, please spread the word to your neighbors in case they are unaware of the current work schedule.
