Construction update — BLUE section 9/12/24

Construction update from RCOC

This week

  • Starting Friday 9/13, Doan will be pouring concrete curb in the prepared areas on Wooddale Court, Half Moon, Roland and Tuckahoe in that order. GM & Sons will follow Doan with concrete driveway approaches, usually one day after the curb is laid.

  • Verdeterre will be prepping the areas for curbing ahead of Doan.

  • Mike’s Landscaping will be in the section making repairs.

Next week

  • Concrete curbing and driveway approaches will continue into next week. Doan and GM & Sons expect to finish the concrete work early in the week.

  • Verdeterre will be prepping the areas for curbing ahead of Doan.

  • Mike’s Landscaping will in the section making repairs.

  • Curb and driveway approach removal on the second side of streets in the eastern part of the section will begin next week in the same general order as previously (starting with Overhill). As a reminder, when driveway approaches are removed, they will be replaced with a temporary stone approach to preserve driveway access. However, there can be a delay of up to an hour between approach removal and laying the temporary stone. Residents will need to plan ahead when curb removal is proceeding down their streets.

Driveway access restrictions and parking during curbing process

The curbing process includes removal of temporary driveway approaches, pouring concrete curbs, laying concrete driveway approaches and allowing the concrete to cure. Residents will not have access to their driveways for about two weeks, starting from the day the driveway approach is removed. This allows time for the concrete curbs/driveway approaches to cure before there is vehicle traffic on them. See more information on the curbing process and related limitations on driveway access and parking restrictions HERE.

Residents who will be impacted by the concrete work will be notified about 48 hours in advance with a notice on front doors. The notice will include the date on which the work is expected to start. Vehicles should be moved from driveways/garages and parked elsewhere prior to 7 am on the date indicated to avoid being blocked in for the two-week period.

New driveway approaches will generally be concrete, unless the Road Commission contacts the impacted resident to discuss a different material (asphalt, re-installing brick pavers, etc.) Residents who previously had asphalt driveway approaches can request an asphalt replacement (instead of concrete) by emailing Wayne Dabrowski at wdabrowski@rcoc.org.

Looking ahead . . .

New concrete curbs and driveway approaches will be poured on the second side of Overhill, N. Williamsbury, Hamilton and Glengarry Circle West toward the end of the month. Asphalt removal (milling) and grading to prepare the sub-grade for paving will begin in the western part of the Blue section the last week of September, with paving to follow in early October. Milling, grading and paving will likely begin on Ardmoor, then move on to Burning Bush, moving east to west along each street. During milling and grading, there can be NO street parking during the workday; during paving, the street will be completely closed with no traffic or parking allowed. More details will be provided as we get closer to the date those operations will begin.

Pink section work

Paving on Waddington is scheduled for Friday 9/13 and Waddington will be closed to traffic and parking. The intersection of Oak and Waddington will remain open when Waddington is paved (Oak will be paved at a later date). However, asphalt trucks and the paving equipment will have to cross the intersection and will likely cause delays for drivers traveling on Oak. The intersection of Waddington and Pine will be paved with Waddington and will be closed to traffic on Friday 9/13. Residents will want to plan alternative routes to avoid Pine Street on Friday.

Tilbury, Tilbury Place and Bradway east of Cranbrook will be paved on Saturday 9/14. Pine and Yarmouth east of Cranbrook will be paved Monday or Tuesday of next week. These streets will be completely closed to all traffic during paving. If these streets are part of your normal driving pattern, you will want to find alternate routes to avoid paving work through early next week.

Reminders

Please avoid parking during the workday on any street where there is active road construction and ensure any contractors/workers at your home understand and follow this guidance. Our streets are just not wide enough to accommodate construction equipment, traffic and parking at the same time. Limiting traffic on streets with active construction would also be a big help.

For questions or issues during construction, please contact Wayne Dabrowski at 248-858-4862 or wdabrowski@rcoc.org.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this project.
