Curb replacement in the PINK section — 10/21/24

During the paving process, the rolling equipment ran too close to the curb and chipped the concrete in some places. Further damage was done to some of the chipped areas in the intervening weeks, whether by construction vehicles, delivery trucks, landscaping trailers or normal traffic bumping into the exposed face of the curb. It’s normal that small imperfections will occur in the face of the curb; the small imperfections are usually covered with the second layer of asphalt and pose no structural or aesthetic issue in the final product. However, in some areas of the Pink section, the damage to the curb was more significant. This issue was first identified on the east side of Glenhurst. The Road Commission and its inspectors has since identified other streets where instances of similar damage occurred. While the chips (gouges in some places) may not be a structural issue, they are unacceptable from an aesthetic standpoint, particularly in a project for which residents are paying $48,000. In partnership with Bloomfield Township, the Road Commission is requiring the contractor to remove and replace damaged sections of the curb, at the contractors’ expense.

Doan has begun removal and replacement of sections of the damaged concrete curb. Residents who will be impacted by this work will be notified by the contractor. Where the curb in front of a driveway will be removed and replaced, unfortunately, access to the driveway will be blocked for 7-10 days to allow the new concrete to cure, and residents will need to park in the street or a neighbor’s driveway. We recognize that this is an inconvenience to impacted residents, and apologize for that inconvenience.
