RCOC Construction Update 6/13/24 — Pink Section

Due to weather-related delays, concrete curb and driveway approach work on Glenhurst, Westwood, and Waddington has been delayed a few days and will begin next week.

For homes on Glenhurst, Westwood and Waddington, a notice will be posted on your front door indicating when your home will be affected by the concrete placement. If you receive a notice, you will need to move your car out of your driveway prior to the date listed on the notice. (If the curb and driveway on your side of the street has not been removed, you will not need to move your vehicle from your driveway.)

The contractor will knock on doors prior to concrete placement and ask residents to move vehicles onto the street, so they are not blocked in while the curb area is being graded and then for the duration of the concrete curing time.

Once the concrete curb and driveway approaches have been installed, the concrete need to set (cure) for two weeks before they can be driven on. We will block off driveways with yellow caution tape until the concrete reaches the proper strength. Please do not touch the caution tape. When the caution tape has been removed by the contractor, the driveway will be safe for vehicles to drive on.

If you have any concerns about mobility and your ability to access your home while the concrete cures, please use the contact information below.

The contractor is continuing the removal of existing curbs and driveways and installing underdrain (edge drain) on Pine, South Bradway, and Oak between Waddington and Westwood. The restoration contractor is continuing to work on sprinkler relocations on South Bradway.

Next week, the contractor is going to finish the curb removal and underdrain installation on Tilbury Rd, and South Bradway. As indicated above, concrete curbs and driveway approaches will start next week on N Glenhurst, Westwood, and Waddington.

A Few Reminders

If possible, please have any guests park in your driveway if you live across the street from a current work area. The extra room will allow us to work faster and minimize delays for street traffic.

Please travel at slow speeds as you approach individuals and equipment. When approaching the active construction area, make eye contact with the individual construction worker or the equipment operator before traveling past them. Equipment operators have many blind spots and may not see you unless eye contact is made.

In case of an emergency, all construction staff will clear the road as quickly as possible to allow emergency services through.

As work progresses through the installation of underdrain, you will still have access to your driveways. Once the curb is removed, we are providing aggregate (stone) transitions to ensure this access. If you have a circular driveway, we will provide transitions in one approach or the other (not both).

The contractor will be working from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. They are working on one side of the road at a time to allow access for residents and maintain the flow of traffic.

If possible, please assist us by marking your sprinkler heads with paint, flags, sticks, etc. This will help us avoid damaging your sprinkler heads/system as much as possible.

Soil erosion controls are to remain in place until the project is completed. The soil erosion controls will slow drainage and protect the drainage system from debris and/or sediment entering the system at all structure areas. Stormwater may drain more slowly in areas where soil erosion controls have been installed.

We know that the upcoming work is exciting and interesting to children of all ages; however, please always keep children out of the road and behind the sidewalk. The work will generally not extend any further than five feet from the edge of the existing roadway.

A quick reminder of the order of work in the RED/PINK section:

One side at a time on

1. North Glenhurst

2. Westwood

3. Waddington

4. Tilbury Place and Tilbury Road

5. South Bradway

6. Yarmouth

7. Dorstone

8. Tottenham

9. Oak

10. Pine

Then the opposite side of the road, starting at North Glenhurst.

We will provide updates to residents as the project progresses. If you receive an update, please spread the word to your neighbors in case they are unaware of the current work schedule.

Should residents have questions or concerns, please use the contact information below. If you email or call, please provide your address and contact number. We ask that residents do not communicate with the contractor directly, as they are working for the Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) and will only take direction from RCOC. Likewise, the contractor’s employees have been instructed not to communicate with residents to ensure RCOC can address and be aware of any residents’ concerns.
