RCOC Construction Update 6/6/24 — Blue Section

Weekly Update from RCOC — Blue Section

The contractor is continuing the removal of existing curbs and driveways on Ardmoor Drive in preparation for new curb installation and drive approach replacement.

Looking ahead to the end of this week, the contractor will be finishing removals on the east side of Ardmoor Drive and Hupp Cross Road. The restoration contractor will continue to work on sprinkler relocations on Wooddale Road, Half Moon Road, and Wooddale Court.

Next week, the contractor will start curb removal on the east side of Woodale Road, the south/southwest of Half Moon Road, and the south side of Wooddale Court. Underdrain (edge drain) installation will begin on the north side of Burning Bush Road, where the curb has already been removed. The restoration contractor will begin sprinkler relocation on Rolland Drive and Tuckahoe Road.

A Few Reminders

If possible, please have any guests park in your driveway if you live across the street from a current work area. The extra room will allow us to work faster and minimize delays for street traffic. We aim to provide you with a quality, beautiful new road and need your help by being patient and limiting travel in the areas where we are working during working hours. We want to complete this large project as quickly as possible and limit the inconvenience to residents.

Please travel at slow speeds as you approach individuals and equipment. When approaching the active construction area, make eye contact with the individual construction worker or the equipment operator before traveling past them. Equipment operators have many blind spots and may not see you unless eye contact is made.

In case of an emergency, all construction staff will clear the road as quickly as possible to allow emergency services through.

As work progresses, you will still have access to your driveways, except during the time when the curbs are laid, and the concrete is curing. Once your driveway approach has been removed, we are providing aggregate transitions to ensure this access. If you have a circular driveway, we will provide a transition in one approach or the other (not both).

The contractor will be working from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. They are working on one side of the road at a time to allow access for residents and maintain the flow of traffic.

If possible, please assist us by marking your sprinkler heads with paint, flags, sticks, etc. This will help us avoid damaging your sprinkler heads/system as much as possible.

Soil erosion controls are to remain in place until the project is completed. The soil erosion controls will slow drainage and protect the drainage system from debris and/or sediment entering the system at all structure areas.

Construction signs need to remain in place for the duration of the road work. The signs will be removed when they are no longer needed. Any damage caused by the signs to greenbelt areas will be addressed as part of the final restoration process.

We will provide updates to residents as the project progresses. If you receive an update, please spread the word to your neighbors in case they are unaware of the current work schedule. We know that the upcoming work is exciting and interesting to children of all ages; however, please always keep children out of the road and behind the sidewalk. The work will generally not extend any further than five feet from the edge of the existing roadway.

Should residents have questions or concerns, please use the contact information below. If you email or call, please provide your address and contact number. We ask that residents do not communicate with the contractor directly, as they are working for the Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) and will only take direction from RCOC. Likewise, the contractor’s employees have been instructed not to communicate with residents to ensure RCOC can address and be aware of any residents’ concerns.

Currently, there has been no adjustment to the order of work in the BLUE phase. A quick reminder of the section order is below:

  1. North Side of Burning Bush (Lahser to Ardmoor)

  2. East Side of Ardmoor (north end to Hupp Cross)

  3. East Side of Hupp Cross (Bradway to Burning Bush)

  4. East Side of Wooddale Road (Burning Bush to Bradway)

  5. South Side of Halfmoon (Wooddale to Burning Bush)

  6. South Side of Wooddale Court (Halfmoon to Wooddale Road)

  7. South Side of Rolland (Lahser to Bradway)

  8. South Side of Tuckahoe (Bradway to Lahser)

Depending on how the operation is moving, at this point we will evaluate if we start over at Burning Bush or jump to another section.

  1. North Side of Overhill (Bradway to Glengarry)

  2. West side of Glengarry Circle West (Overhill to N Glengarry, Williamsbury to N Glengarry)

  3. West side of Williamsbury (Glengarry Circle W to Bradway)

  4. West side of Hamilton (Bradway to Overhill)

Then the opposite side of the road.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation and understanding.

Best,

Christina Jaenisch
