RCOC Construction Update 7/10/24 — Pink Section

Construction Update from RCOC:

For the remainder of this week:

o Springline will continue curb removal and underdrain installation on the west side of Waddington Rd.

o Mike’s Landscaping will be working ahead of Springline flagging sprinkler heads and making repairs.

Next week

o Springline will continue curb removal and underdrain installation on the west side of Tilbury Rd, the south side of Tilbury Place, and the north side of Pine St.

o Mike’s Landscaping will be ahead of Springline flagging sprinkler heads.

o Doan will be removing temporary driveway approaches and pouring concrete curb/driveways on the east side of Tilbury Road, the south side of Pine St, and the east side of Yarmouth. This work will likely start later in the week (after curbing work is completed in the Blue section), most likely on Thursday 7/18.

Residents who will be impacted by the curbing work will receive a notice on their front doors about 48 hours before the work begins. The notice will indicate the date on which the temporary driveway approach is scheduled to be removed, which starts the curb-laying process during which residents will not have access to their driveways. Please have all vehicles out of the garage/driveway and parked elsewhere prior to 7 am on the date shown on the notice. (See below regarding parking.)

After the temporary driveway approach is removed, concrete curb and driveway approaches will be installed. The concrete will need to set (cure) before it can be driven on. Total time during which driveway access will be blocked for the curbing process will be about two weeks. We will block off driveways with yellow caution tape until the concrete reaches the proper strength. Please do not touch the caution tape. When the caution tape has been removed by the contractor, the driveway will be safe for vehicles to drive on.

If you have any concerns about mobility and your ability to access your home while the concrete cures, please contact Wayne Dabrowski of the Road Commission at 248-294-9809 or wdabrowski@rcoc.org.

Driving and parking on streets with active construction

As the construction process unfolds, we are finding out how congested the streets can become when there is active construction, with equipment, workers and materials on one side of the street and the other open for traffic. For this reason, we are asking residents to refrain from parking during the workday on any street where there is active construction. Once the workers leave in the evening, street parking is fine until 7 am the next morning. (Please do move your vehicle before 7 am the next day, so the construction crews can get started promptly.)

During the curbing process, residents will not have access to their driveways for about 2 weeks, as discussed above. Residents should park their vehicles elsewhere during the days when the construction crews are removing temporary driveway approaches, laying new curbs and laying new concrete driveway approaches. Once the curbs/new driveway approaches are laid, the crews will move on to other streets while the concrete cures. Street parking is fine during the curing process, since there won’t be active construction on the street during that time.

Other reminders

Please travel at slow speeds as you approach individuals and equipment. When approaching the active construction area, make eye contact with the individual construction worker or the equipment operator before traveling past them. Equipment operators have many blind spots and may not see you unless eye contact is made.

In case of an emergency, all construction staff will clear the road as quickly as possible to allow emergency services through.

The contractor will be working from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. They are working on one side of the road at a time to allow access for residents and maintain the flow of traffic.

Soil erosion controls are to remain in place until the project is completed. The soil erosion controls will slow drainage and protect the drainage system from debris and/or sediment entering the system at all structure areas. Stormwater may drain more slowly in areas where soil erosion controls have been installed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this project!
