Pink and Blue Section Road Work

Pink and Blue Section Road Work

Yesterday, the Road Commission held a “pre-construction” meeting with the contractor, Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Village representatives. Key points from this meeting:

  •  Construction will start the week of May 20.

  • Ajax Construction is the contractor for both the Pink and Blue sections.

  • The detailed schedule of how construction will progress – where will the contractor start, what street goes next, etc. – is not yet available. I have fielded questions from a number of residents who have grad parties and other events planned this summer, wondering about access to their homes, and whether their road will be under construction during their events. Unfortunately, we don’t have specifics to share on those questions.

  • The Road Commission has assured us that residents will receive plenty of advance notice of when their driveways will be blocked, and when paving operations will block access to their streets. When driveways are blocked to lay curbs and allow them to cure, residents will be able to park on the opposite side of the street. In addition to access limitations for curbs and paving, there WILL be temporary short term (10-15 minutes, for example) blockages of various streets throughout the project as equipment moves around during the day, and patience will be needed.

  • We will post the construction updates we receive from the Road Commission using blog posts on the Roads website (www.VillageRoads.org). Residents should make a habit of checking the website frequently to stay up to date. To make it easier to access blog post updates for just your specific section, click on “Construction Updates” on the home page main menu. On the Constructions Updates page, there will be links to the blog posts sorted by section (Pink or Blue).

  • We will use periodic email blasts to communicate updates on construction progress. We are sensitive to the overwhelming number of emails we already receive and will do our best to limit the email blasts to one per week. Thus, it will be crucial for residents to check the Roads website frequently to ensure they have the latest information from the Road Commission.

  • You can expect that road construction will take place at least 6 days a week and will frequently extend beyond the normal 6 pm construction limit. This will be disruptive, but it will also help ensure that construction will be over, and you will be driving on beautiful pothole-free roads, by Thanksgiving.

Sidewalk repairs

The Township sidewalk repair program is continuing in the Village.  The contractor is responsible to repair damage to landscape, grass and sprinkler systems caused by their work; the remediation work will be done in the very near future. Please contact Mark Hendricks (248-200-6814) or Alex Kozlowski (947-257-8203) at Bloomfield Township to report damage to sprinkler systems in particular; they will coordinate with the contractor to ensure they address the issues.

Please do not remove the barricades around the freshly poured concrete, especially from the driveways. These squares within the driveway need at least 5 days to fully “cure”. The longer vehicles stay off the concrete, the stronger the concrete will become. The contractor will remove the barricades once the concrete is ready to be driven on. The Township has advised us that if the barricades are removed by anyone other than the contractor and the concrete is damaged, the cost to replace these new pieces will become the homeowner’s responsibility.

Who do I call if there is a problem?

The Bloomfield Village Association is not involved in the construction process, we only convey information we learn. The Oakland County Road Commission is the construction manager and is best equipped to answer your concerns.
